Raw material mica child labor free

The media is currently paying a lot of attention to the raw material mica. Many underprivileged children who run health risks are used in the extraction of that mineral with shiny, heat-resistant and insulating properties. Baril Coatings also uses the raw material mica, but obtains this raw material from European and North American countries where extraction meets the strictest environmental and ethical guidelines.

Reporting is a cause for concern
As a socially responsible company, these kinds of messages concern us. However, we do know how the mineral we use is extracted. Terre des Hommes states that the paint and coating industry accounts for nearly a quarter of global mica production. Many underprivileged children are used in the labour-intensive extraction, who have a high risk of lung diseases due to the fine dust that is released when the mica is hammered loose. We deeply regret that the poorest and children in some countries in Africa, Asia and South America are working in less regulatory environments.

Durable
As a producer of sustainable coatings, we therefore take our responsibility at all times when choosing our raw materials. The aim is to use fewer hazardous substances in our products and to reduce the impact on our living environment. Where possible, we use natural resources instead of fossil resources. The origin of the raw materials and the way in which they were produced are also points of attention. Our ambition is to achieve more with less. With our coating technology we extend the life of objects. We do this by preserving it with less material and thin layer technology. We contribute to a better living environment through reuse, less use of hazardous substances and low-emission production.
